Introduction
The Teachers’ Unions made demands to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to publish the names of teachers purported to have been promoted but the commission is adamant to their demands.
The commission only published TSC numbers without names something that has caught the attention of many stakeholders sensing malice in the whole process.
Unions take on the issue
The two giant teachers unions, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
They made their grievances urging the commission to make the names of these teachers public for accountability.
KNUT presented their formal request urging the commission to make public the promotion guidelines used during the interviews in December 2023 and January 2025.
KNUT expressed its discontent with the promotion criteria and feels like the commission is not giving full details about promoted teachers.
The union is seeking answers as to why the commission is not publishing the names of those promoted against TSC Numbers that will aid in the auditing purposes.
The union feels that even the dead teachers will be on the list owing to the fact the commission doesn’t want to give the names of those promoted.
TSC Names of Promoted Teachers
Its unclear what the motive of the commission is by refusing to publish the names of those promoted teachers.
This raises more questions than answers hence the reason to pursue the commission further to unravel what has been kept a secret by the commission.
What has created more suspicion in the who process is the presence of very old TSC numbers deemed to have retired from the service.
Otherwise, very recent TSC numbers of teachers believed to have graduated recently between 2016 and 2017.
The unions have established that there are quite a number of deserving teachers left out in the list with those least deserving making it into the list something that has raised the eyebrows.
The adamant commission has sustained its decision that only those appearing in the list will be issued with promotion letters.
Some counties have received promotion letters from the commission in soft copy which they have printed and issued the teachers.
Conclusion
The commission recently released a 724 page PDF document containing 36,505 TSC numbers which they claim is the legit list of promoted teachers.
Which is steming from the interviews that were conducted in December and January 2023& 2024 respectfully.
